Hello, I am Lapadre Proctor a proud member of the FSU Tech Fellows program. I am very excited to be a member of this program there are a couple things in particular that I am looking forward to but before that a little about myself.
I grew up in Midway, Florida which is about 20 minutes away from FSU and Tallahassee. I graduated in the top 10 of my class at a school in Quincy, Florida called Crossroad Academy. During my time in high school, I started dual enrollment at Tallahassee Community College known as TCC in 9th grade. By the time I was a senior, I was able to get my Associate Arts Degree before I graduated high school. My college of choice has always been FSU. The only other schools I considered were Georgia Tech and FAMU. After being accepted into FSU, the next thing that I had to consider was my major. I knew I wanted to be in a STEM field and had a couple of first choices. These choices were engineering and computer science, I am interested in programming, automobiles, aerospace, and design. So with this in mind I ended up choosing Mechanical Engineering.
I was able to join the Tech Fellows program since I am a part of the CARE program and what drew me to the Tech Fellows program was two things. The first thing being that it would give me an internship opportunity which is something I really need since I’m a Junior I need to start making connections and networking with people to try to find a Full-time job by my graduation. One of the past Tech Fellows I have met has earned a job from his internship and I was hoping that I could do the same or at least connect with people who could help me get to where I want to be. The second reason why I wanted to join this program was due to the amount of business knowledge and experience that I will gain. I would highly recommend this program to anyone who ever plans on starting their own business. I would like to start my own business in the future in the automotive industry starting my own car company. I have always had a love for cars, and I was really inspired by Elon Musk’s car company Tesla. The goal of his company is not even really to make money, but the goal is to make the environment safer and slow the pollution coming from fossil fuels used to get gas for regular cars through this goal he was able to make his company profitable.
When it comes to this program, I am most excited to start working with one of the incubators and sit in on some of the meetings in my free time. During these meetings, the incubators have programming that they do with people who are starting companies. I would love to soak up information and take notes, while just learning more in general about entrepreneurship. I am very interested to see in the minds of start up owners to see how they handle hardships such as the pandemic we are going through currently and how start-up studios can help new businesses. Learning these things will be very helpful for my future and I would feel accomplished knowing I was able to contribute to start up companies. With that being said that’s a little about me and what I expect to get out of this program, Thank you for this opportunity.
