Blog #6 – Goal Status Update

I have made a lot of progress with two of my four goals – doula certification/birthing experience and learning a sustainable lifestyle. I am scheduled to attended two births in the end of March and beginning of April. After that my certification will be complete and I can send in my packet for review. I am very consistent with my work for this certification and every assignment I do my knowledge on the topic expands two-fold. It has amazed me how much information and research there is to know. My time at the farm in Hawaii taught me so much about living sustainably, especially in regard to a closed loop food system. I have three more farms that I will be staying at around the United States.

I have made decent progress, although not as much as I’d like, with my other two goals – increasing Spanish fluency and learning about indigenous wisdom. It has been challenging especially because of COVID because I have been unable to travel outside of the country where I would be able to fully immerse myself in the Spanish language, which is the only real way to become fluent. I keep up with my Spanish and practice it regularly, so I do not lose it. The same thing has happened with indigenous wisdom, I was unable to travel to a tribe to learn because it would put them at too much of a risk, which I would never want to do. However, I have been able to connect to a traditional birthing association that has guest speakers and lessons on indigenous birthing/postpartum practices. I am also starting to plan an internship with the Pachamama Alliance.

I do not think I need to adjust my goals. These are still my strongest interests and I am keen on accomplishing them. Moving forward I will be following my plans with the different farms and finishing my certification, as well as all of the online work I am doing for Spanish and Indigenous work.
